Wellness is a division of Old Mother Hubbard Company. Mother Hubbard Co. established in 1926 but its history extends to the time of A. Hubbard and Sons bakery in Gloucester, Massachusetts. They were bakers of hard tack sea biscuits. Once a person threw a baked biscuit in front of dog. Dog happily guzzled it. Then they brought the idea to manufacture dog biscuits. Upon its establishment in 1926, Old Mother Hubbard Co. started to distribute its dog biscuit in whole northeast.
During 1961, Old Mother Hubbard Company was sold to Jim Schott, who was a professional in animal nutrition and health and was committed to develop a nutrient and healthy food for animal’s proper growth. As company extended its processing, Jim Schott the new owner moved Company’s head office in Lowell, Massachusetts.
After continued efforts and research, Old Mother Hubbard Company succeeded to manufacture a quality dog food that was 100% made of human grade ingredients. By using the 100 % of human grade ingredients offered the perfect nutrient and healthy dog biscuits. These biscuits include all the major ingredients that a healthy home made food contains such as boneless chicken, Vermont Cheddar Cheese, New Zealand Lamb, whole apples and carrots, whole sweet potatoes, farm fresh eggs, whole garlic cloves, and a myriad of additional holistic and nutritious ingredients. With this product, Old Mother Hubbard Co. set the new standards.
In 1990, Old Mother Hubbard Company’s CEO Jim Schott Jr. Started work with a team of animal nutrition experts, veterinarians and scientists to develop such pet food that would revolutionize the pet food industry. The result of this great research was Wellness that was completely holistic and made of perfectly suitable ingredients. The launching of Wellness is a revolution in the pet food market. Wellness was the first brand to use only human quality ingredients while excluding meat from products, fillers, potential allergens, and artificial colors, flavors and preservatives.

Recently Old Mother Hubbard Company has expanded its Wellness line of products and has launched Well Bites and Pure Rewards in 2006.
