Shih-Tzu

Shih Tzu is an attentive and humorous little dog. He lives happily and is resilient by nature. He is gifted by lots of brilliant characteristics. Shih Tzu is very beautiful, brave and sometimes arrogant. Shih Tzu loves to spend time with well mannered and chary children. Sweet Shish Tzu gets affectionate very soon with every one and is very friendly by nature. Shish Tzu is an attentive watch dog. Shih Tzu likes to bark, but they usually stay quiet inside home. They can get hot tempered if they are amazed or irritated. They are humorous and energetic. This loving little dog loves to be around people and is normally fine with other pets and dogs. Some Shih Tzu can be complicated to house train or domesticate. In this case, you may have to get assistance of professional trainers to avoid any trouble and mishap.

Documents and evidences from the 16th Century show that Shih Tzu dogs have resemblance with small lion. That’s why, some times Shih-Tzu is called small lion. During 17th Century, dogs were imported from Tibet and bred in the Forbidden City of Peking. The Shih Tzu became favorite one in Imperial Chinese court. Shih Tzu belongs to the toy breed group. Today the breed is very popular, both as a companion and as a glamorous show dog.

Shish Tzu is a tiny powerful dog covered over with a rich double fur of long hair lined with a woolly basecoat. This fascinating small dog has hair above the nose growing upward. They have rounded head black nose and short hairy muzzle. They have wide set large rounded eyes. Their eyes are usually dark as compared to most of the dogs but slightly lighter on liver and blue coloured dogs. They have pendant shaped ears covered with hair as they look like they blend right into the body coat. They have heavy plumped tail curled over the back.

  • Height: Shih Tzu normally grows up to 11 inches in height.
  • Weight: Shih Tzu usually can gain weight from 9 – 16 lbs.
  • Colour: Every coat colour is acceptable in Shih Tzu. Thus white spots on head and tail are generally elements to judge pure breed.

These modest dogs want a good daily grooming with a hair brush as they have fluffy coats. A topknot is usually recommended to tie with a bow so that they can see properly. Some Shih Tzu’s owners prefer to have them trimmed. It will let you to care for the coat easily and in proper way. Shih Tzu has sensitive eyes so their eyes should be kept clean to avoid any eyes infection. They have moderate shedding and are very enduring with children if socialized at an early age. They normally live up to 15 years.
