Pomeranian
The Pomeranian is an energetic tiny dog. They are sharp, keen to discover, extremely trustworthy for their owner and family. If they are socialized in early ages, then they generally get along with other dogs and household animals without any troubles. But some of them assume themselves much larger in size as they are not actually and do not hesitate to attack on giant size dogs. They are considered brilliant watchdogs with a loud bark. Pomeranians alert you when a visitor arrives, but quickly welcome the guest once they see you welcome them. They bark at strangers excessively. To prevent them from excessive barking habit, you must teach them at an early stage, so that they may bark a couple of times when the doorbell rings or when there are visitors but after that, they must be silent. They are watchful, curious and keen to stay busy. Pomeranians have a pleasant nature and do not stick to their handlers. Pomeranians are not recommended for very young children and beginner dog keepers. Too much concentration from children can make them anxious and they may become hot tempered. However, they would become the best companion of old people and also behave well with children.
There are some doubts about the origin of Pomeranians. Some people say that this breed was developed in the Prussian region of Pomerania, but some people say that Pomeranian originates from Germany. So it is not proved yet, thus Pomeranian belongs to toy breed group.
In the late 18th Century, Queen Victoria became a Pomeranian breeder, and she developed her own setup for Pomeranian’s development because Queen Victoria favored smaller dogs. She showed her dogs with some success. Pomeranian breed became very popular in England and its all credit goes to Queen Victoria.
The Pomeranian is a little, feathery dog with a wedge shaped head. Their ears are pointed erect. Some Pomeranian breed’s faces gives appearance just like a fox while some have like baby doll or pansy appearance. All species have bright and dark eyes of almond shape which gives a clever expression. Usually they have dark coloured nose while some species have nose as the same colour of the coat. They have a rough, soft and fluffy hair around their neck covering their chest.
- Height: Usually Pomeranian can grow from 7 – 12 inches in height.
- Weight: Pomeranian is a toy breed so they are tiny in size. Normally they gain weight up to 7 lb.
- Colour: Pomeranian has developed several colour ranges but every strong colour is satisfactory. Most common colour range is red, orange, white and tan.
Most common health problems in Pomeranian are eye infections, heart problems, skin problems and slipped stifle. As loss of their teeth in early ages has become common in this breed since solid dry food is recommended to feed them. It ensures the strength of their gums and teeth.
