Mastiff
Mastiff Originated from Great Britain and are also called English Mastiff. Mastiff is a great breed of dogs. Mastiff was developed and used as a military dog and guard dog actually. They are great fighting dogs. Mastiff is very brave and devoted to perform his duties. That’s why, he is known as a fearless dog. He loves to work and protect his family. They always stay alert about their surrounding environment and confident in their behavior. They are extremely devoted, brave, protective and known to build a strong relationship with their owner. They are gentle and easygoing dogs who are very defensive and possessive of their family. They are very intelligent, careful and observant when some stranger is present. They alert their owner about the presence of a stranger.
Mastiff is a wonderful companion and loves to play and hangs out with his family members. If they sense trouble, then they bark and do not let the stranger get near their family unless they get assurance everything is fine.
Mastiff Belongs To The Working Breed Group.
- Height: Mastiff male's height is approximately 31 – 34 inches while Mastiff female's height is near about 27 – 29 inches.
- Weight: Mastiff male has round about 140 – 160 lb while female 110 – 140 lb weight.
- Colour: Mastiff breed have developed some coat colours such as fawn, brindle and apricot.
- Temperament: Mastiff is a gentle, caring, courageous, dignified and good natured dog.
Mastiff may be difficult to train so you must start to train him from an early age. Early socialization is recommended because they can be aggressive with other animals.
Mastiff has dark coloured eyes set apart from each other. They have small and thick ears that are also set apart away. They have wide skull and black nose with flat nostrils. The tail is slightly thin from the end and in quite curly shape. They have large strong feet having black nails. They have short and straight top coat. Thus, coat colour varies from dog to dog. If the dog is brindle, then it should have fawn or apricot as a background and should have dark stripes throughout the body. Mastiff most commonly suffers from the following diseases or health problems.
- Hip and elbow Dysplasia
- Swelling
- Heart Problems
- Intestinal Problems
Generally Mastiff is a lazy dog but provides protection to his family when needed. They can live easily in apartments with routine exercise. Mastiff is very difficult to control so it is not perfect for such person who has no experience in domesticating dogs as pets. Today they are used as companion dogs and trusted guard dogs.
