Jack Russell Terrier is a tiny, compact, sporty dog appearing just like a less refined working Fox Terrier. The Jack Russell Terrier is a lively, cheery, dedicated, and affectionate dog. Careful and humorous Jack Russell Terriers love to play games and also like to play with toys. These dogs are determined and obedient, yet extremely bold. They are friendly by nature and usually kind to children who have been taught not to taunt or hit the dog. Jack Russell Terrier breed was developed in 19th century in England by a man named Jack Russell. This spirited little terrier was used for small hunt game, particularly fox hunting game. An active and good natured Jack Russell is a good family companion. Jack Russell is a talented dog. They are very famous for hunting, tracking, agility, and performing tricks. Jack Russell Terriers belong to terrier breed group as it is clear from their names. They have flat skull between their ears and slightly tapered from sides. They have black nose and dark shaded almond shaped eyes. They have flexible body and small chest. They have docked tail that is set highly. They are found in white with reddish black, tan and brown marking coat occupying at least 15% of their coat. They have been developed as wired haired, broken and smooth coat species. Jack Russell Terrier is usually 10 – 12 inches in height while 14 – 18 lb in weight. They are very resilient in nature so they can live in apartments with some daily exercise but if they are provided yards, then it is great for them to run, jump, hunt and dig freely.
The Jack Russell can be aggressive with other dogs and animals if have not been socialized and well trained since young age. Early domestication can help considerably in moderate behavior. They have strong hunting character even stronger than your average terrier. They should not be trusted with other small animals. They like to chase and investigate. Be careful not to let them off the leash unless they are very well trained and like to socialize. Jack Russell likes to bark and dig. Jack Russell climbs and jumps showing that they can climb over a fence easily. Jack Russell Terrier is not the breed for an inexperienced dog owner. It is correct if you say that this is a giant dog in a little dog’s body. The owner needs to be as strong willed as they are; otherwise, this little but muscular dog takes over. With the well trained owner, this little dog can really do extremely well, but Jack Russell Terrier is not recommended for those who have not had past domestication experience with terriers.
