Havanese

Havanese is a friendly companion dog by nature. They are mild and quick to respond. They are very loving and good humored with a high degree of attitude. They get lot of affections and become very close to their owners and families and are outstanding with children. These jolly dogs are very friendly and get along with everyone including people, dogs, cats and other pets. This inquisitive dog loves to sit high on a chair to observe surrounding environment. They are easy to domesticate. They are very responsive to the tone of your voice. Bad behavior and harsh words only upset the dog. Some Havanese bark a lot, but they can be trained not to do so. It is best to teach them not to bark unnecessarily while they are still young to prevent it from becoming a habit. The Havanese breed has rich history and good reputation of being circus dog, because he can be trained quickly and enjoys making tricks with people. They love to roam around people. Havanese are good watch dogs. They alert you when a visitor arrives, but quickly welcomes the guest once they see you welcome them.

This extremely lovely and very easy to train breed was developed in Cuba, Russia and France. But today this breed rarely exists in Cuba. Havanese belongs to toy breed group. Havanese have been faced by a crisis during 19th Century. But today it is the most increasing breed. The credit goes to the Havanese lovers who are doing lot of efforts for their preservation in United States.

Havanese have a rough appearance as a little dog. The dark eyes and long tail are covered with long silky and fluffy hair. They have strong legs which allow them to roam freely in easy movement. Havanese’s coat varies from wavy to curly. The Havanese is a double-coated breed with soft hair, both on outer and undercoat. Adult coat reaches 6 to 8 inches, and has a shine. This small dog breed has 8 to 11 inches height at the shoulders and has a standard size of 6 and usual life span of 12 to 15 years. They have eye edges, the nose and lips are solid black on all colors excluding the chocolate coloured Havanese. Havanese breed has developed various colors such as cream, gold, white, silver, blue, and black. In Europe, black and chocolate are not preferred colors, and are not recognized in some foreign countries. It is sturdy, and a small breed.

Havanese is a very healthy and long living breed. But they also suffer from some health problems such as luxating patellas, cataracts, dry skin and poodle eye. Havanese can live easily in apartments with some exercise. They don’t need yard to play. So they are excellent to play and remain active indoor.
