Golden retriever dog breed was developed during 1800s by the Great Britain as game retrieving dog. They belong to sporting breed group. They like to play with children and are friendly with other animals.
- Height: Golden retriever male is usually 23 – 24 inches tall while Golden retriever female is usually 21 – 22 inches tall.
- Weight: Normally Golden retriever male has 60 – 75 lb weight while Golden retriever female has 55 – 65 lb weight.
- Colour: Golden retriever breed has developed different shades or hues in golden colour as defined by his name.
Golden retriever is trustworthy, friendly and reliable dog. Their average life span is 10 to 12 years. They required routine maintenance to keep them healthy, active and wise.
Golden retriever is an active and intelligent dog. They usually alert their owner about the presence of stranger. They have lot of energy so activities integrated stamina are ideal for them. They do their best when given some task like hunting, retrieving or performing other activities. Golden retriever is also a good swimmer and they love to swim. If you are near water, then they nearly jump into the water amuse themselves.
Golden retriever has almond shaped eyes of dark brown colour. Their ears are usually near the face. They have great nose which is in two colours, sometimes in dark brown and some times in black. They have muscular neck and strong shoulders with straight front legs. They have thick tail from base and comparatively thin at the other end normally in curved shape when raised. They have double coat protecting them from the climate affects. Their under coat is quite thick and somewhat provides water resistance while outer coat is very near to the body.
Golden retriever is a strong and active breed. So they want daily exercise to be active. According to dogs experts, they need exercise on daily basis for about 90 minutes. So they don’t feel much comfortable in apartment lifestyle but they can survive, if you offer them daily walk and games of retrieving. Common diseases of this breed are eye problem, heart problem, dysplasia and allergy. Today Golden retriever are used for numerous purposes such as hunting dog, retriever dog, companion dog and service dog.
