Collie
Collie is also known as shepherd because of its use as sheep herding dog. Collie originates from Scotland’s high hills and north part of England. That’s why, it also called Scottish Collie. Collie is an active and intelligent dog to be highly trained with just minor routine training. They normally love to play with their family members and like to bind with them. They don’t get familiar and are not friendly with strangers at the first meeting. But after quite some time of meeting those people again and again, they may be friendly with them. They remain very alert every time about their surrounding environment. Usually, they bark if they are bored, bothered by some one or need some physical activity to exercise.
Collie was developed in 18th Century in Britain. Then it was mainly used as sheep herding dog. Collie belongs to herding breed group of dogs.
- Height: Collie male is 24 – 29 inches tall while Collie female is 22 – 24 inches tall.
- Weight: Collie male is round about 60 – 70 lb while female is near about 50 – 60 lb in weight.
- Colour: Collie is in some specific colour range such as sable and white, blue merle, tricolor and white.
- Temperament: Collie is loyal, cool, friendly and affectionate by nature. Collie is a very beautiful and elegant breed of dogs.
Collie is well known for its friendly nature. These dogs are very happy when they are at home with family and they also protect their family members when necessary. Collie is a beautiful breed and also pretty easy to train. You don’t have to hassle to let your dog know what you want from him because Collie is an intelligent dog. So he can easily understand from your behavior. They need some exercise to be active so they are not suitable for congested apartment life style.
Collie has an attractive look. His head is vital tapers from the ears to the nose with a well rounded muzzle. Collie has eyes of almond shape with arched eyebrows and gives happy expression. They have small eras from the base of skull. Their jaw is strong but thin. Their legs are straight and give strength to the body with small oval feet. Collie has fluffy and soft coat that gives him a great impression. On the face, the mask is smooth but there is feathering around the back of the legs and sides of the face. Some lines of Collie are prone to dysphasia, eye problems, and light sensitivity. Collie is an energetic dog, can do well in apartment if provided sufficient space to do exercise. Today, Collie is mainly used as companion but still some are being used as herding dogs.
