Chihuahua

Chihuahua is a very lovely, cute and smallest breed of dogs in the world. They are very intelligent, sharp and obedient. They love to spend time among their family members when they are at home. They also enjoy outing. They are an excellent watch dogs. Chihuahua alerts their owner about the presence of any stranger. These dogs are great companion dogs. Most of the time, old persons love to keep them as pet because of their calm and friendly nature. Such people who live alone, they also prefer to keep Chihuahua at home as pets. They are great to spend time with.

Chihuahua dogs basically originate from Mexico. They belong to the toy breed group. Chihuahua dogs are tiny dogs and have apple shaped head and short muzzle. They have dark shade rounded eyes set near each other. They have small and thin erect ears. Usually, Chihuahua puppies have small spots on the skulls. Their body is chubby and comparatively they are longer. They have small tail curled over back or towards one side. There are basically two species available in the market; one is short haired and other one is long haired. Both have their own unique impressions.

  • Height: Generally Chihuahua males are 6 – 9 inches tall and Chihuahua female also have same height or somewhat smaller in size.
  • Weight: Chihuahua male has round about 2 – 6 lb in weight while Chihuahua female is little bit lighter in weight.
  • Colour: Chihuahua has developed numerous colour combinations. Normally they are in fawn, sand, steel blue, silver, chestnut, but any colour is accepted in this breed including tan, white and tri colours.

Chihuahua is very courageous, affectionate and extremely lively dog, these qualities make him a great companion. Chihuahua becomes instantly loyal and gets attached with the owner and always remains suspicious of strangers. They like to walk with their owners in the presence of strangers and closely observe the motions of their owners. Some people say they are not easy to train but they are very intelligent and sharp by nature. They can be noisy and may require endurance to domesticate. Many owners simply pamper train this breed. Be sure to socialize your Chihuahua as a pup to avoid extreme aggressiveness with other dogs as well as holding back from strangers.

Because of their small nose usually, they have to suffer from respiratory problems. They also suffer from eye problems such as corneal dryness and gum problems as well so their teeth must be brushed on daily basis. Feed them lightly to gain their weight. Over eating may also cause several problems. They have moderate shedding and may live for 12 – 15 years.
