Beagle
Beagle is a dog breed of medium size and a member of the hound breed group of dogs. Beagle is also called English Beagle. Beagle seems like Foxhound but smaller in size and have shorter legs with longer and softer ears. Beagles are considered scent hounds used basically for tracking deer, bear, and for playing other games. Beagle is a loyal breed and is usually very well tempered. Beagles love exercise and also love to stay around people. Beagle type small dogs have existed for about five centuries, but the breed as popularly known was developed in the United Kingdom about 150 years ago. The origin of the word Beagle is still uncertain. Some people think that this word is derived from a French word “Begueule” meaning open thought or loud mouth. Some people suggested that word Beagle derived from old English world Beag, meaning “Small”.
Beagle is an energetic and loving dog. Beagle is a quite muscular dog and the best family pet. Beagle has sleek, short and easy care coat available in various colours like black and tan, red and white, orange and white and lemon and white. The coat is hard and of medium length. They have broad skull in rounded shape with straight and square muzzle. They have black nose with excellent scenting power. They have long wide ears but pendant. They have brown and hazel coloured eyes of almond shape. They have beautiful strong tail but not curved. Beagle has medium length strong neck without folds in the skin, a broad chest narrowing to a tapered abdomen and waist.
The Beagle is a gentle, sweet, lively and inquiring dog that just loves everyone. Beagle is excellent with children and is usually good with other dogs, but should not be trusted with non canine pets, unless they socialize with cats and other household animals when they are young. Beagle follows its own commands. A Beagle has a loud baying cry, a delight to hunting horsemen, but can be disturbing to family and neighbors.
- Height: Beagle male is normally 14 – 16 inches tall while Beagle female is round about 13 – 15 inches tall. They give very cute and attractive appearance.
- Weight: Beagle male generally gains 22 – 25 lb while female gains 20 – 23 lb weight. They are very sleek and have muscular body.
A well breed beagle puppy is usually energetic, fun loving, and playful, but one always must have something for it to chew on. The beagle puppy happily shows affection to anybody, and continues to do so as long as it has gets attention. Beagle should frequently exercised and completely socialize through all stages of life. Puppies should be fed small amounts of food.
